Able Life Universal Stand Assist : difficult item to find, glad this is out there.

Difficult item to find, glad this is out there. . The only issue is that it doesn’t really “stay put”. It wiggles a bit when standing, and i will need to add some screws and some sort of bracket to attach it securely to the sofa. That being said, this has made a large difference in the ability to safely transfer from wheelchair to sofa and back again. This has bought my husband more time to be independant in his transfer from the wheelchair.

My mom is having a hard time admitting she is getting old. At 80 yrs old – she is still vain. She’s been falling more and scooting and slipping off the couch. I got this to assist her getting up. It’s not very noticeable and it is very strong. She’s 5′ 2″ and average weight. This has been successful in helping her stand up.

Good quality and adjustable to suit your needs. The stand assist was purchased for my mother who at times has difficulty getting out of a chair due to arthritis. I was concerned that the stand would be flimsy, but it’s quite substantial and well made. The stand is easy to put together (a few screws and an allen wrench are included), and the best part is that you can adjust it to fit your situation. The upholstered chair that we have is narrow, and i was able to adjust it for a snug fit under the cushion. The legs are easily adjustable in height. The handles are nicely padded and firm so you really don’t feel the metal underneath when you push up. My mother has just started to use it, and we already know that it will be a great help to her. We ended up having one of the handles positioned all the way up, and the other all the way down. This best suit her condition.

Very pleased with this product. It works very well for my father. Very pleased with this product.

I purchased this for an elderly disabled client who has been unable to stand up on her own. This device has enabled her to stand up without pulling on nearby furniture, and then transfer to her walker without assistance. It’s sturdy, stable, and well supports her weight. I’m just wondering why all the ot’s who have been in and out of her life over the past two years did not know about this device. Most dme departments probably won’t cover the cost, but amazon has the very best price, and it’s worth every penny.

Evil knevell ejection seat that would have helped him make it over the snake river.

Good solid construction, fit our lazy-boy sectional with builtin cushions very well, my wife with arthritic knees has high praisefor how well it aids her when getting up. Has no sharp edges to cut the upholstery. Screw heads smooth and recessed whereneeded. Handles cushioned and fit great. I would recommend this highly. Compared to the cost of a lift chair, this option wasquite reasonable.

This product has worked out perfectly for my mom after having a total knee replacement. It gives her something sturdy to brace herself on when standing. It moves easily from the recliner to the recliner couch. It doesn’t interfere with reclining on either one. This product has really helped her keep her independence.

Great usage, harder to assemble, wobbly and expensive. I bought this for my dad who is 80+ years old and could not get up easily without assistance. Now he can get up on the first shot. His confidence is increased and we are so glad to see him getting up on his own for the first time in a long time. The unit was a bit difficult to put together. There are like 8 screws with matching nuts to screw on after the assembly of the individual parts. Also the unit is a bit wobbly but placed all the way against the couch or recliner it feel more stable. Also it is expensive for just a bunch of metal bars – it should be 1/2 price of what is it for good value. But in the end it is the only one of its kind so you have to decide whether it is worth it for your loved one.

Bought as gift for my mother. Bought as gift for my mother. Won’t give 5 stars until she’s used it for some time.

It’s a cool idea, but there are limitations. It’s a cool idea, but there are limitations. 1) the way this is designed, if your couch naturally sits lower to the ground, this device isn’t very useful because it’s lowest height is too tall for short couches. One of mine got stripped after a single attempt and good luck getting it out3) it’s a solid idea and would probably work well for most couches, but be wary if your couch is low to the ground. Quality overall is average, at best.

Very pleased with this product. It works very well for my father. Very pleased with this product.

Was easy to assemble and adjust and works (just as it. Our 87 year old family member struggled to get off the recliner sofa, both in pushing the footrest down with his feet and also in standing up. It was so difficult for him that we were strongly considering getting rid of the recliner sofa and buying one of the recliners that push you up out of the seat. But, after reading the reviews for this, i thought it was worth a try. It has worked just as described; was easy to assemble and adjust and works (just as it said it would) on our la-z-boy recliner sofa which does not have removable cushions. This has made a huge difference for our senior. He is able now to grasp the handles, push his footrest down with his feet and then get easily to his feet. It was so hard for him to get up before we installed this that he would often sit long stretches without getting up because he didn’t like to call anyone to ask for help. Now, he gets up and down easily and more often which means he’ll now get up to get himself a glass of water, to go out on the deck and walk around, to get a sweater or hang one up, etc. This has made a tremendous difference in his activity level and his independence.

I purchased this hoping it would work in front of a bed.

This is an excellent product. It took only 10 minutes to assemble and adjust. It worked very well for support to get out of a deep recliner and would have been the perfect answer to my problem but that the foot part of the recliner was too large to fit between the legs of the device. When measuring for this device, don’t forget to measure the foot as well as the seat.

Excellent construction and very easy to assemble and install. The one suggestion i would add is that the company also include two or three spacer blocks the same thickness of the bottom rail of this item. That way, when installed, the furniture piece would be level.

My husband had abdominal surgery, and this simple to put together device was a tremendous help afterwards. He can easily get up from the couch which he sure couldn’t do without this. His pt loves it and plans to recommend to his other clients.

Good idea, but didn’t work with current seats. . Idea is solid, but you have to have a very specific type of seat to use. Have to have detachable bottom cushions. All couches/recliners in mom’s home had attached cushions.

I would definitely recommend this. . My dad is 91 and has parkinson’s. This stand assist has really helped him to be able to get up from his couch. I would definitely recommend this.

Useful – for removable cushions only. This is sturdier than it looks. Fairly easy to put together. My only quibble is that is does not rise much above the couch cushions. It seems to be made for short people. I am not short and could do with a few more inches of height on the grips. But it does work to get me off the couch. Eta: does not work on couches/chairs that do not have removable cushions. The u-shaped part says it will go on top of the cushions. It sinks down around the cushion, putting it at an odd angle (not touching the floor) and interferes with the recliner mechanism.
